Autumn is officially here. The leaves are falling, the weather is getting cooler, and your pregnant belly is starting to resemble the gourds growing at the local pumpkin patch. Could there BE a theme more perfect than having a Little Pumpkin baby shower right now?
The answer is no, and I’m here to prove it.
You are about to discover all of the beautiful elements that accompany a pumpkin-themed baby shower, from the rustic decorations to the delicious food options. (Pumpkin spice cake, anyone?)
For any kind of party celebrating a certain person, I always break planning down into five categories:
- Invitations
- Decorations
- Food and drink
- The cake (oh yes, it deserves its own category)
- Party favors
And for baby showers, I add two more categories:
- Diaper cake
- Games and activities!
I will go through pumpkin baby shower ideas for each of these categories, with plenty of options whether you’re having a girl, a boy, or want a gender-neutral pumpkin shower.
It’s trendy to have a pink pumpkin baby shower for girls right now, but for the record, I love going with the traditional colors of orange, cream, brown, and green (or mint). They are all gender-neutral while playing up the fall atmosphere! But these ideas do incorporate girl-specific ideas (like pink) and boy-specific ideas, too.
By the end of this article, you’ll be ready to throw the perfect “My Little Pumpkin” baby shower!
Little Pumpkin Baby Shower Invitations
Every party starts with an invitation. Even in the days of everything being digital, it’s nice to have a visual element like the invitation to let people know what to expect at your baby shower.
Since a My Little Pumpkin baby shower theme is gender-neutral, I’ll provide options that are for boys, for girls, and unisex.

Little Pumpkin Shower Decorations
There are your standard party decorations, like a banner, centerpieces, and a cool welcome sign. But when a little pumpkin is on the way, baby shower decorations can be SO COOL! There are pumpkins, leaves, and the most beautiful colors to work with. Here are some of my favorites that I’ve found for little pumpkin baby shower ideas!
- Welcome Sign: When getting something as big (and pricey) as a welcome sign for your little pumpkin baby shower, I recommend going with something that’s not personalized. Pumpkins are appropriate EVERY year in the fall, so why not get something you can bring home to put on your front door year after year?
- DIY Reversible Wood Slice Pumpkin: If you’ve got a crafty hand, why not make your own welcome sign? This design is particularly cool because the opposite side is painted with chalkboard paint, so you can write your custom baby shower welcome message during the party, then replace it with your family name when you take it home!
- Custom Banner: If you know the baby’s name already, having a banner proudly displaying it is a really sweet visual focus for the party. You can get this one with all different kinds of colors for both the words and the pumpkin!
- Little Pumpkin Banner: This banner works for both genders and fits very well with the rustic fall look, made from jute burlap.

- Burlap and Lace Table Runners: A perfect blend of rustic and feminine, I think burlap and lace together create a perfect autumnal baby shower vibe suitable to a little pumpkin party.

- Artificial Pumpkins: You can’t have a little pumpkin baby shower without pumpkins! Faux pumpkins can be even cheaper than real ones and last forever. I like these naturally colored orange pumpkins, but you can get some beautiful white ones (that you can even paint to any color you like).

- Monogrammed Pumpkin: This is a very special fake pumpkin because it’s symbolic of your growing family! While you could get one in the initial of your new baby’s first name, I recommend going with the first initial of your last name. It’ll be a beautiful piece of fall decor for your family for years to come.
- DIY Fabric Pumpkins: Are you handy with a sewing machine? This tutorial shows you how to make your own pumpkins and you can use any kind of fabric to match your preferred color scheme! Tall and skinny, short and fat, big or small, you can design your pumpkins to suit your needs.
- DIY Yarn Pumpkins: Not handy with a sewing machine? These mini yarn pumpkins are a piece of cake to make and will help fill in any small pockets of space on your food and dessert tables. The tutorial is actually for a small tic tac toe game, which would be adorable if you have several different tables for guests to sit at!
- Mini Pumpkin Vases: This is one of my favorite pumpkin baby shower centerpieces. They’re special because they probably won’t last more than the one day, but they add such a beautiful touch of nature and the wonder of fall to your tables. Just scoop out the guts of a little pumpkin and put some of your favorite floral stems inside!
- Pumpkin Paper Poms: These lightweight paper balls can be hung from literally anything (except near open flame) and can add some visual interest to the ceiling area during your pumpkin baby shower.

- Perfect for halloween, special events or any other themed occassions
- Orange Paper Lanterns: If the pumpkin poms seem a little too cutesy or on-the-nose for your baby shower, I’m a big fan of the classic paper lantern. They’re one of the easiest and most affordable ways to add a little elegance to a party!

- Rustic Wooden “Diaper Bank” Box: The diaper raffle is becoming a regular tradition in most baby showers, and this is an adorable way to set up a drop-off location for the packages. You could even put some little pumpkins around the box or inside the open lid.
- Balloon Guest “Book” Pumpkin: How cute is this?? Most people don’t ever pull out their old party guest books or even have anywhere to keep them. But this very clever frame allows for your guests to each write their name on a small circle paper “balloon” that they can then stick to the pumpkin’s strings a la Up (you’ll need glue dots, too). It’ll make a cute addition to your nursery or wall of cherished family moments.
- DIY Faux Pumpkin Guest Book: This one is pretty easy! Just get an artificial white pumpkin and provide colorful Sharpies for people to sign your “guest pumpkin” or even write a short message.
- Mommy-to-Be Pin: Sure, most guests will know exactly who is being honored at the baby shower. But it’s still fun to have a bit of “look at me!” flair on your shirt! You can even get pins for the daddy-to-be and grandma-to-be.
Pumpkin Food & Drink Ideas
First of all, tread carefully in this category – it is WAY too easy to get carried away with making pumpkin spice EVERYTHING at your shower! You don’t want to wear your guests out with a lack of variety, so choose two or three foods from these ideas then stick to the usual party foods to fill out the menu.
- Printable Food Signs: Once you have this template, you can type in whatever foods you want to the faces of the card, then print them at home or order them through a service (you’ll need to cut and fold them yourself either way).
- Printable Water Bottle Labels: This is a super-easy way to make your party feel fully personalized! Just print out these labels at home and either replace the existing labels on a pack of water bottles or just put them right on top (as long as you use thick enough paper so the old label doesn’t show through).
- Pumpkin Paper Straws: You can always get some regular orange-and-white or brown-and-white paper straws to add a little zing to your party drinks. But for just a few dollars you can get these straws with little gold glitter pumpkins attached to them, and they are adorable!
- Cinnamon Glazed Pumpkin Donuts: This is a great recipe if you’re having a brunch baby shower! And it’s not as hard as you think to make perfect donuts at home – the secret is to have a donut pan on hand.
- Whipped Pumpkin Dip: Forget about the usual yogurt fruit dip – this one is perfect for a fall party! You can dip graham or wheat crackers, apple slices, and vanilla wafers in it.
- Pumpkin Cheese Ball: You’re definitely going to want to save this recipe because it adds a pumpkin visual to your appetizer tray without being repetitive with “pumpkin spice” everything. The flavor is that of a traditional cheese ball, it’s just covered in crushed Doritos and topped with a green bell pepper stem to make it look like a pumpkin!
- Cream Cheese-Filled Pumpkin Snickerdoodles: These may look like your standard snickerdoodle at first, but guests will be pleasantly surprised when they find that not only do they taste like pumpkin, they have a bit of creamy cheesy goodness in the middle!
- Pumpkin Macarons: Macarons aren’t as hard to make as you might think. You just bake the little cookies and sandwich some buttercream in between them – in this case, pumpkin flavored!
- Pumpkin Cheesecake Bars: Spice cake is mixed right into the cheesecake mix for these delectable bars.
- Mini Pumpkin Pies: Not everyone likes cake, and in my experience, those people usually do like pie. These individual pies are super cute and would really fill out a dessert table!
- Pumpkin Juice: As a Harry Potter fan, I had to include this one! Pumpkin juice began as a drink in the book series, which was then turned into an actual drink at the Universal theme parks. This copycat recipe will have your guests asking “what in the world is this delicious drink?”!
Little Pumpkin Cake Ideas
For my parties, the cake is always the grand centerpiece of the entire occasion. I like to go all out on the cake! For a little pumpkin baby shower, I think the obvious choice is to go with a pumpkin spice cake with cream cheese frosting, but you can always mix it up! You can use whatever flavors you prefer, then decorate the cake with pumpkin- and leaf-inspired toppers and accents. Here are a few different ideas:
- Pumpkin Spice Cupcakes: A lot of parties are forgoing the big cake for individual cupcakes these days, especially with the need for social distancing and not wanting to handle other people’s food. For a pumpkin baby shower, these gorgeous cupcakes topped with cream cheese frosting are the way to go!
- Pumpkin Candy Corn Cupcakes: This recipe is also made with spice cake and a (cinnamon) cream cheese frosting, but you could actually use any flavors you want with it! The candy corn pumpkin on top is all you need to go with your little pumpkin baby shower theme. If you really hate candy corn (you weirdo), you can always top them with flat pumpkin-shaped sugar cookies!
- Little Pumpkin Cupcake Toppers: If you don’t want pumpkin-flavored cupcakes and you don’t want to deal with any food toppers, just print and cut out some of these adorable toppers and stick them on top with toothpicks! You can easily cut out the circles with a 2” circle punch. BONUS: You could also print these on sticker paper to hand out as party favors!
- Mini Pumpkin Bundt Cakes: These are individual cakes (not cupcakes) that are made to look like pumpkins. How cute!! This recipe recreates a type of pumpkin spice cake, but you could easily add some orange food coloring to the batter of vanilla or yellow cake and get a similar result.
- Fondant Baby-in-a-Pumpkin: If you’re REALLY creative, or looking to hire out a professional cake, this is an adorable idea. This particular cake is actually made almost entirely out of actual cake wrapped in fondant!
- Elegant Two-Tier Cake: If your pumpkin shower is more neutral with metallic accents (a look I am very partial to as well as the traditional colors), a simple rough-iced multi-tier cake is an easy way to add to that classy aesthetic. Just put a baby pumpkin or two on top, and maybe decorate the tiers with foil leaves.
BONUS: 100+ Baby Shower Cake Sayings (including quotes specifically for a Little Pumpkin Baby Shower!)
- Little Pumpkin Topper: It may be simple, but this topper is so stunning you could put it on top of a plain white cake and it would be gorgeous. You could also use it as a centerpiece feature in a pot of soil with small pumpkins inside!
Pumpkin Baby Shower Favors
While I am always good at remembering to make party favors, I almost always forget to hand them out as people are leaving! Do yourself a favor (haha) and put them on a table by the exit with a very clear sign they are for guests to take home.
- Little Pumpkin Baby Shower Favor Tags: These tags can make any kind of party favor match your little pumpkin theme. Just attach them to some gold or orange ribbon and tie them around your gifts! This one also has the option of ordering stickers you can just apply to boxes or bags filled with treats.
- Jumbo Chocolate Pumpkin Spice Cookies: Fancy cookies always make great party favors. It’s not junk that’s just going to get thrown away, and it’s a sweet (heh) reminder of the party for the next day (or later that night, if it’s me getting the cookie). This is a really easy recipe to make some giant pumpkin cookies! Wrap them in cellophane bags and add the tag from above to tie them up.
- Custom Pocket Sanitizers: There’s nothing wrong with trying to create a little humor from a rough situation. Make the most of 2020’s new mandatory social norms and hand out some complimentary sanitizer to commemorate your baby shower. (I recommend the Sweet Cinnamon Pumpkin scent from Bath & Body Works to go with a little pumpkin baby shower.) I guarantee they will be used!
- Cooking Pumpkin with Recipe Wrapper: Some guests don’t appreciate a favor that takes work, but some will love this opportunity to try something new! Just wrap a small baking pumpkin in a wrapper that holds the recipe for roasted baby pumpkin. The tutorial linked is for a handwritten recipe on a cut-up brown paper bag, but you could easily type it up in a cursive font and print it on brown kraft paper to save time!
- Pick a Pumpkin, Any Pumpkin: A pumpkin party favor doesn’t have to be for cooking – you could just have a collection of pumpkins available for guests to grab from on their way out! I love the idea of stacking them up in and on a high chair. You can use traditional pumpkins, faux pumpkins of all different colors, or even set up a pumpkin painting station for guests to decorate their own.
Little Pumpkin Diaper Cake Ideas
Diaper cakes can be tough to make if you’ve never done one before, but once you get the hang of the rolling, it starts to go by faster. They’re a cute, modern tradition just for baby showers and I love the opportunity to be creative! I’ve found a few images to inspire you if you’re making a little pumpkin diaper cake, but did you know there are also services you can PAY to do them for you? Yeah!! Scroll down for info!
- Muted Tones for Baby Girl: This is a VERY elegant diaper cake. Each layer is wrapped in mesh paper, burlap, and polka dot ribbon, it’s topped with a nice fabric pumpkin, and it has a small banner with baby’s name as well as a faux flower in the muted pink colors of the baby shower.
- Traditional Fall Pumpkin Diaper Cake: No contest, this is my absolute favorite diaper cake here! It’s made with the traditional colors of fall, and this HUGE cake is topped with a large faux pumpkin. Each layer is wrapped in burlap, straw, and various orange ribbons. There’s extra texture with the brown crinkled paper shreds and sunflowers, too!
- Baby Blue and Gold: Don’t worry about DIY for the diaper cake anymore – you can have one done and shipped to you! This boy-specific cake is petite, cute, and a pretty good bargain considering the cost of diapers and the time saved.
- Peachy Pumpkin Diaper Cake: This very elegant cake can ship to you fully assembled at a very reasonable price! If the colors aren’t quite what you’re looking for, that’s no problem – the seller will do custom orders in the colors that you want.
- Simple, Rustic Fall Diaper Cake: While this diaper cake is a lot simpler than the others, it’s also premade – and a LOT cheaper! Sunflowers and fall leaves are accents against a burlap wrap around each tier.
Printable Pumpkin Baby Shower Games & Activities
When choosing your baby shower games, why not spend just a few dollars to get some theme-specific PDFs with little pumpkins and your party colors on them?
- Free Pack of Printable Games: My gender-neutral set features 38 different games, each featuring a unique (but coordinating) pumpkin-themed image! But I offer five of the best games 100% free.
- Editable Blue Pumpkin 5×7 Games: This boy-friendly set of 8 games is completely editable! You can change any text you want. They’re also designed to be 5×7, which is perfect for a party that doesn’t have a lot of table space for writing.
- Pink and Gold 5×7 Games: Also printable as 5×7 cards (they print two to a letter-sized sheet), this set of 8 games is aimed at baby showers for girls with its pastel coloring.
- 22 Different Games: The colors on these games are soft pastels, but would still work for either gender. It has a 22 different games included – you’ll probably just want to choose a few favorites instead of printing them at all, but the price point is so low you won’t feel like you wasted the rest.

These are cute ideas! I love pumpkins especially for decoration. I found out I was having a boy in October so we did a pumpkin gender reveal. Baby showers are so much fun to plan!
