Mom-to-Be is well past announcing her pregnancy to the entire world, and she’s probably, FINALLY, well into her third trimester. So now it’s time to have a baby shower!
And you HAVE to have a cake for a baby shower!
Unfortunately, you can’t just write “Happy Birthday” on a baby shower cake and be done.
Sure, you could just put “Congratulations,” but that’s kind of boring, isn’t it?
So I’ve compiled a list of baby shower cake sayings, from funny to cute, religious to raunchy, and themed to gender-specific for you to choose from to make your baby shower cake memorable!
If you make it all the way to the bottom, you’ll also find some extra tips regarding baby shower cake messages.
When is the best time for the baby shower (and the cake)? Who makes the baby shower cake? What’s the easiest way to do the cake writing?
All of that will be answered at the end. But first, let’s figure out what to write on the baby shower cake!
Baby Shower Cake Sayings for a Girl
Some words are just better reserved for little girls. But a lot of these can have “girl” swapped for “boy” if you like the phrase for your boy baby shower cake!
- It’s a girl! For when it hasn’t officially been announced yet.
- [Baby’s Name]’s coming, she’s almost here! A baby girl that’s oh so dear. Change the “dear” to “deer” if you’ve got a Woodland baby shower theme!
- Bling, baby! Perfect for the fashionable mother expecting a girl.
- Pretty in Pink – The go-to color for baby girls everywhere.
- Cuddly as a cloud, gentle as the night, a baby girl is the sweetest delight! A great little poem for a cake decorated in clouds and stars.
- Soon-to-Be Daddy’s Little Girl – Some dads need a little bit of time to adjust to the idea of NOT having a boy. This one is for the dad-to-be that can’t wait to meet his daughter!
- Sugar, spice, and everything nice. That’s what little girls are made of! You can always crop the last sentence because most people are familiar with this trope just using the first five words.
- Princess in Progress – This is America, where ALL little girls get to be princesses!
- Sent from Heaven above, a baby girl for you to love. This one is great for more religious expectant mothers.
- Little Miss Sunshine – This title goes well with baby showers utilizing yellow or orange as theme colors.
- Baby girls take the cake! An obvious play on “cake,” but cute nonetheless!
- Give a twirl for our new little girl! You’re still not likely to see anyone pirouette at the party.
- Hip hip hooray, she’s on her way! Extremely wholesome and unoffensive.
- Dresses, ribbons, and hair to curl. We’re tickled pink it’s a baby girl! Great if you’d like to shove every girl-gender stereotype onto one cake! (I kid, I had everything pink for my baby girl, too!)
Baby Shower Cake Messages for a Boy
Just like the “girl” messages above, a lot of these can be swapped to the opposite gender!
- Little Prince – Remember that book??
- Love, joy, and wonderful dreams are the sweetest things a baby boy brings! – Another very wholesome choice for the whole family.
- King of the Castle – No dad in the picture? Then your baby boy can “rule”!
- Thank Heaven for little boys. Though I’m not 100% sure that’s where they all come from (just kidding)!
- A giggle, a toy, a sweet baby boy! There are only so many words that rhyme with “boy.”
- Frogs and snails and puppy dog tails; that’s what little boys are made of. As with the girl version, you could easily leave off the last half and people should still understand the sentiment.
- Showers of joy, it’s a boy! A nice little play on having a baby “shower.”
- Ahoy, little boy! This could go particularly well with a nautical theme.
- Celebrate, everyone, here comes our son! I really love the idea of using the word “son” instead of “boy,” it makes it feel so real and personal.
- Our Little Man – One of my most frequently used terms of endearment for my son after he was born.
Baby Shower Cake Wording for Twins
Twins can be really tough to have once they’re actually born.
Make sure you play up the awesomeness of this uncommon pregnancy during the baby shower to take the future parents’ minds off of the chaos to come.
- Double the Babies, Double the Love – And double the stress, but let’s not talk about that at the baby shower.
- Due with Two – If you didn’t leave much room on the cake for a slogan, this is short and sweet.
- Two are coming from above… All the more for us to love! A subtle reference to heaven for religious or spiritual parents-to-be.
- Twice the blessings, twice the fun. Two little miracles instead of one! Another with a religious vibe while still being very cute.
- Double the diapers, double the grins, double the feedings, she’s having twins! This is similar to the first quote but with a fun rhyming element.
- Let the twins bake, just cut the cake! Because hopefully mom isn’t going to pop during the party.
- Everything double – here comes trouble! If this isn’t the truth.
- Two Peas in a Pod – Literally, the same pod!
- Double the joy, it’s a girl AND a boy! I dreamed of having twins, a boy and a girl, when I was younger. (Man, I’m glad that didn’t actually happen!) But if that happens to be your situation, this phrase is perfect!
Cute Gender Neutral Baby Shower Cake Sayings
Whether you’re keeping things a secret until the baby’s birthday or the gender is actually unknown, these gender-neutral cake sentiments will work perfectly whether you’re having a boy OR a girl.
They can also work well for a combination baby shower and gender reveal party cake.
- The wait is almost over! At least, mommy-to-be hopes so!
- [Mother’s Name]’s Expecting a Little Bundle of Joy – Because the party is about Mom as much as it is about baby.
- Blue or pink – what do you think? Great for a baby shower/gender reveal combo party.
- Welcome, little one! You’re not welcome, sleepless nights!
- Someone special, someone dear, someone NEW is almost here! What a sweet poem.
- A boy or a girl? We just can’t say. Let’s shower the parents before delivery day! Even if the parents know the gender but just don’t want to tell everyone else, this cake saying will make it clear that guests shouldn’t badger them during the shower.
- And baby makes 3. A lovely phrase for first-time parents-to-be!
- Little love, oh so sweet, we are all excited to meet!… Whether you’re a boy or a girl.
- Peek-a-boo! We can’t wait to meet you! Just hope no one actually tries to get a peek-a-boo down yonder on the mom-to-be.
- The big day is drawing near. Baby [Last Name] is almost here! This is a great choice for a personalized baby shower cake saying without having to know the gender.
- Up, up, and away! A little one is on the way! Some simple buttercream balloons are perfect to put on a baby shower cake with this quote.
- [#] days and counting! You can make a reference to the amount of time until the expected due date, but this one is even more perfect for a scheduled c-section birth.
- Baby Love – Short, sweet, and a perfectly gender neutral sentiment.
- The first step a baby takes is to your heart. And they do it before they can even walk!
- Ten fingers and ten toes on a bundle of joy that grows and grows! At least, I’m pretty sure both boys and girls have ten of each, haha!
- Little Baby, Big Love – And the love gets bigger along with baby.
- Baby powder, cream and oil, soon we’ll have someone to spoil! It’s tough to rhyme “spoil,” but there you have it.
- Next stop: Parenthood! Give brand new parents a clear roadmap of what happens next.
- Our love for you is growing stronger. Baby, we can’t wait much longer! But we’ll wait as long as it takes for you to come out safe and healthy, right?
- Itty bitty fingers, teeny weeny toes, tiny little tummy, baby button nose! You read that in Baby Talk, didn’t you?
- 50% Mom, 50% Dad, 100% Perfect! This might be technically true, but for all appearances, my daughter came out 94% ME!
- First we had each other, and now we’ll have everything. A wonderful caption for parents finally making the family of their dreams.
- Cupcake or Stud Muffin? This is usually the theme of a gender reveal party, but for a baby shower where the gender is unknown, I think it works well on a cake (or even across a cake made of cupcakes).
- Showering Love on Baby [Last Name] – Because it is literally a baby shower!
- Bun in the Oven – This casual phrase is cute for down-to-earth parents who might not have planned their baby.
- Our family is growing by two little feet! And two little hands, and one big head (or was that just my babies?).
- Bowties or bows? Nobody knows! Another line stolen from gender reveal parties, if the parents haven’t even found out the gender yet, this will let everyone know it’s a total mystery.
- Oh baby! This short saying is easy to fit on any cake and always ends up looking nice.
- All of God’s grace in one tiny face! For religious parents waiting until birth to find out the baby’s gender.
- A baby’s smile makes each day worthwhile. Another simple truth!
- Little hands, little feet, baby [Last Name] will be so sweet! This is another great quote for customizing a baby shower cake saying to the family’s name without needing to know the gender.
- The big day is drawing near. Baby [Last Name] is almost here! Don’t know the gender and the baby shower is cutting it close to the due date? This works great!
- Let the adventure begin. And parenthood is an adventure unlike any other, whether you’re having a boy or a girl.
Funny Baby Shower Cake Captions
Not all parents-to-be have great (see: dirty) senses of humor… Nor do their families.
Tread lightly when choosing to use one of these phrases!
- Somebody get a mop, [Mother-to-Be] is ready to pop! If it were me, I’d put a pregnant Barbie on the cake with a frosting puddle below her.
- Ready or not, here I come! I mean, I’m pretty sure it’s too late to back out now.
- A lot of changes are coming your way! You MUST put diapers (made of fondant or modeling chocolate) on this one for it to work. Chocolate poop optional.
- The bottom is up, the head is down. That’s what happens when you fool around! Some moms still have heads poking them in the ribs until delivery date, so this might not work for everyone.
- Little hands. Little feet. Hello baby! Goodbye sleep. It starts out cute, then slaps you with reality!
- Congratulations on your new alarm clock! You’ll be sleeping through the real one out of exhaustion.
- Baby [Last Name] is so sweet. Mommy [Name] can’t see her feet! So somebody bring the poor mom a footstool.
- Good luck. You’ll need it! Even with the best of luck, a newborn is challenging to care for.
- To sleepless nights and dirty diapers! Weird toast but OK.

The Best Time of Day for a Baby Shower
The timing of your baby shower is actually really relevant to your baby shower cake. If you’re having a brunch baby shower at 10:30AM, you may end up taking a lot of that cake home! Some people just can’t stomach a lot of sweets before it’s even lunchtime.
I always like to have parties involving cake later in the afternoon – even close to dinnertime. Yes, I’ll have to feed my guests “dinner,” but a variety of simple finger foods can easily fill everyone up. Plus, this means your cake is more likely to not only be eaten, but completely devoured! That’s one less leftover you have to pack up.
Even better? You’ll have more time on the day of the shower to finish the baby shower cake – including deciding how to write your favorite greeting on the cake – before the party starts. That way everything is fresh without you having to rush to get it done.
Who Makes the Baby Shower Cake
Traditionally, someone else throws the baby shower for the Mom-to-Be, like her sister, mother, or friends. The person throwing the shower usually either makes the cake themselves, has a trusted friend make it, or hires a professional to put it together.
But if Future Mommy is already known as a great baker and cake designer, or just likes to have a lot of control over the aesthetics of her shower (hi, hello, I’m targeting myself), she might not only be able to, but WANT to make her own baby shower cake!
So there’s no hard-and-fast rule about who is supposed to make the baby shower cake. If you’re the expecting mom but you know exactly what you want, even if you can’t or don’t want to make the cake yourself, you can meet with a professional yourself to order the baby shower cake of your dreams.

How to Write Words on a Baby Shower Cake
Baby shower cake writing can be really hard, especially if your regular handwriting isn’t exactly stellar. Fortunately, these days there are a LOT of options for adding text to a baby shower cake!
- Pipe it with buttercream. This is the old-fashioned way of decorating a cake, and it’s a method that still holds up today! If you’ve got a steady hand and pretty handwriting, I recommend this as the easiest, fastest way to get a message on your baby shower cake. Just lightly scratch the baby shower cake saying into the frosting with a toothpick before you start piping to make sure you space it evenly and keep it straight!
- Cut out fondant letters. I made my first-ever cake with fondant, and found it surprisingly easy to work with! I cut out letters in a specific font I wanted with a Cricut Cake machine. Unfortunately, these machines have been discontinued. But you can still get mini letter cutters to use on your fondant in various font types! This method makes it easier to rearrange the letters on the cake if you lay them down and realize they’re not fitting right.
- Print your text on edible paper. While this might sound like the easiest option to get the exact font style, spacing, and text size that you want for your cake, it’s easier said than done. Not only do you need edible paper, but you’ll also need edible ink AND an edible ink printer to put it in!
If you don’t make cakes for a living, this is far too expensive. A cheaper alternative would be to get an airbrush gun and edible airbrush ink to spray over a stencil – but still more expensive than just using fondant or buttercream.
This was a HUGE list of baby shower cake sayings – maybe all of them that have ever been used! Don’t think so? Tell me one I missed in the comments below and I’ll add it!

These are great suggestions, my friend is expected a boy and I have lots to provide her for the shower cake! Thanks for sharing
My daughter’s baby shower/gender reveal party had the ultrasound pic showing it was a girl. clever!
This is nuts, I love it. Over here in Europe we don’t have the baby shower tradition so much. Although it is gaining momentum and becoming more popular. We have a few pregnant friends and my wife and I are forever telling them to have a baby shower. Mostly because we love eating cake and our daughter, who is 4,loves eating cake too and she tells us to tell our friends to have a (as she calls it) cake party.
Love the Harry Potter ones!
This baby is a keeper.
