Coming up with Encanto party decoration ideas was so easy for my daughter’s eighth birthday. Encanto is just so full of beautiful visuals, I had a lot of material to pull from!
Since the film is so successful, Encanto birthday party decorations are fairly easy to find in the store. Party City has a huge line of coordinating decor and tableware.
While I did use some of their items, I also made a lot of my own Encanto party decor. I usually have plenty of time for DIY, fortunately. It saves me a lot of money while amping up the vibe of the party.
So if you’re wondering how to decorate for an Encanto birthday party, wonder no more! I’ve got a lot to share with you, from DIY projects to simple Encanto decor.
Lily loves Mirabel and Isabela and asked for the party to feature them both, but mostly Isabela.
She’s not picky at all, is she? Haha.
Now I’d like to show my Encanto decorations off to you – to inspire your own Encanto party ideas, of course!

Chalkboard Encanto Sign
This Encanto party decoration was one of the first things our guests saw when walking up to the house. It features a quote Bruno says in the movie (hence the hourglass), and I felt the message set an excellent tone for the party.
I used a double-sided chalkboard easel that I got from Kirkland’s a long time ago, and I draw something on both sides for every birthday party. This exact one isn’t available anymore, but you can find some really similar chalkboard easels on Amazon!
In my experience, chalk pens are much too difficult to remove, so I like to use good old-fashioned chalk. I use these dustless chalks that come in lots of colors and include a magnetic clip for easier holding.
Oh, and I always put a parting message on the back for everyone to see as they leave. This one wasn’t a quote from the movie, but it does reference the magic of the story (and features a butterfly in honor of Mirabel).
Encanto Flowers & Vines
This is a great idea for a very simple Encanto birthday decoration and is certainly reminiscent of Isabela.
I used these very cheap faux vines for wrapping the columns. Then I scored big on some clearance silk flowers at my local Walmart.
I just popped the heads off the stems they came on and my husband Josh threaded them onto some fishing line so he could wrap them around the columns.
If you’re unable to find affordable fake flowers locally, Amazon has some bulk flowers that look nice.
Encanto Cactus
When I was browsing Pinterest for Encanto decoration ideas, I came across some cacti made out of green balloons. They reminded me instantly of Isabela and her newfound growing talent!
It’s difficult to find Isabela Encanto birthday decorations specifically. Of the premade items that only have one sister, most of them feature Mirabel.
But decorations don’t have to show a character’s face to encompass the vibe of that person!
I got some plastic flower pots at Dollar Tree and Party City balloons in the “kiwi” color. Then I used my Cricut Maker 3 to cut some cactus flowers out of pink cardstock.
After blowing up the balloons to various sizes and tying them off, I drew “spines” all over them with a black Sharpie. Then I taped a large balloon to the inner rim of each flower pot and built up the cacti from there.
I used two, three, or four balloons per cactus, just to make them all unique!
Regular tape in loops is best to hold the balloons in the pots, but I used double-sided tape to attach the cardstock flowers to the balloons.
And be SURE to put something a bit heavy in the pots before attaching the balloons so they don’t blow around!
While we had lots of colorful balloons floating all over the house, these DIY cacti were my favorite Encanto balloon decorations.
Make Your Own Encanto Door
Of all my Encanto party decorations, by far the most talked about was the glowing door I hand-drew to feature Lily.
An Encanto door decoration is really a must since doors are such an important part of the story. But I wanted the door I printed to feature the birthday girl instead of one of the characters!
I slightly edited this door template and stretched it to be 2’ by 6’ at 195 dots per inch using the Procreate app (only available for iPad).
Then, using an Apple Pencil, I traced a photo of Lily wearing an Isabela-inspired dress using the Light Pen. For this, I used a bright yellow color to mimic the glowing outlines of the Encanto doors! I added the rest of the details freehanded.
I ordered a 2’ x 6’ banner print of the finished image from Walmart that I was able to pick up at my local store. Then I twisted and taped a string of battery-operated fairy lights to line up with the swirly glowing outline!
On the day of the party, I used velcro command strips to attach the poster and battery box to our front door. (I had intended to hide the battery box with something cute, but I ran out of time.)
Now this banner (with the lights still on it) lives on my daughter’s bedroom door. She loves it!
LED Pillar Candles
Since Encanto takes place in a time before electricity, candles are seen everywhere in the movie.
While I wanted some pillar candles around the house for the party, I knew it was a bad idea to have tons of real candles lit with children running around.
I was very pleasantly surprised to find a pack of NINE (9!) LED candles – operated via remote, no less – for a super low price.
They come in varying heights so that I could group a few together for visual interest.
We now have them around the house, operating on a daily timer!
DIY Encanto Candle
I knew from the start that I wanted Abuela’s magical candle to be part of my Encanto table decorations.
And while I found the perfect SVG file here for cutting the design with my Cricut, I knew I wanted to use a naked pillar candle like in the film rather than a prayer candle encased in glass.
I also did not want it to be a real flame, both for safety reasons and so I could ensure it wouldn’t go out during the party!
So I spent more than I normally would on this flickering LED candle from Target. It’s the perfect size for mimicking Abuela’s candle, and the light flicker is much more realistic than that of the cheaper candles from Amazon.
I used my sewing tape to measure the exact circumference of the candle before cutting the design to that length from gold shimmer permanent vinyl.
The hardest part was transferring the design to the candle. Since it has a realistic waxy coating, the vinyl wasn’t eager to stick to it. I just moved very slowly and used a weeding tool to help pull it from the transfer tape to the candle as I went.
I borrowed a candle holder like this one from my mom to display the candle on the kitchen table during the birthday party.
And just like the door banner, this candle now lives in my daughter’s room as a beautiful nightlight (it has an automatic timer of 8 hours on, 16 hours off).
Bruno’s Hourglass
While it seems like most Encanto birthday party ideas are for girls, there are plenty that will work for boys too.
Bruno’s character has so much to offer for inspiration: the sands of time in his room, the green glass prophecies, his affinity for rats…
I knew I didn’t want sand all over my house, but I did want to represent the sands of time at the party.
What better (and easier) way to do that than with an hourglass?
Just DON’T do what I did and order a really pretty freestanding one without a frame – then let it roll off the kitchen table and crash onto the floor right after unpacking it.
There were tears.
Because of that occurrence, I highly recommend this hourglass with a wooden encasement that keeps it nice and steady. I love how the glittery gold sand matches the gold of the candle!
This hourglass was repurposed as decor for our Harry Potter-themed master bedroom. (Time-turner, anyone?)
DIY Foam Cactus
Throughout the process of planning this Encanto birthday party, I realized that I am in love with cactuses. The balloon ones were not enough for me!
Somewhere on Pinterest, I came across a picture of a green foam number with toothpicks all over it to make it resemble a cactus. I knew it would be perfect for Lily’s Encanto party!
I bought a foam number 8 at a local craft store and painted it with some green acrylic paint I already had on hand (I did two coats for fuller coverage).
Once it was dry, I just stuck toothpicks all over it! I used these sandwich toothpicks because they are rounded on one end and I didn’t want the little kids to get hurt on them.
I also used a toothpick to dig a slightly larger hole in the top. Then I put some hot glue directly into the hole and stuck the stem-gripping plastic nub of one of my fake flowers into the hole!
Paper Flowers & Magical Butterflies
No Isabela Encanto birthday decor would be complete without colorful flowers!
I ordered this pack of colorful fiesta flowers from Amazon, then used loops of regular tape to hold them to the wall.
Fair warning, though: they come flat and take a lot of patience to shape into flowers without ripping the tissue paper. I just worked on them while watching reruns of Degrassi one night.
As for the butterflies, they go together well with Lily’s love for Mirabel. Mixing the butterflies with the flowers represents the hug between Isabela and Mirabel.
I used these silver butterflies that come in different sizes and with a pack of removable glue dots.
Colorful Streamers, Balloons, & Ceiling Spirals
Encanto is a movie FULL of bright colors, so I used lots of streamers to capture that at the birthday party!
The wall where the living room meets the kitchen was covered all the way across in streamers just short enough to not hit anybody as they walked through. I put a few more streamers throughout the kitchen ceiling, too.
I also collected balloons in several colors to match Mirabel and Isabela, including pink, lavender, Caribbean blue, and hot pink.
The ceiling spirals featuring Mirabel, Isabela, and Luisa are some of the Encanto birthday decorations available at Party City. I also used these in the kitchen alongside the streamers!
DIY Encanto House
This DIY Encanto decoration took the most time out of all of my party projects.
I needed some Encanto wall decor as a focal point over the server, and I like the main piece to be pretty big. So I almost always end up making something for this wall myself, and this time was no different.
The Casita seemed like the logical choice for a large paper project, but I didn’t even know where to begin piecing it together (because believe it or not, I am not that creative).
Fortunately, I found Miss Mandee’s 3D Encanto house design! It wasn’t exactly what I needed, since her design is for a multidimensional and small house, but it was a great jumping-off point.
I downloaded her SVG files and uploaded them to Design Space. Then I painstakingly sliced off all of the folding parts intended to create the boxy shapes. Finally, I had to blow up the size of all the pieces, then slice some of them into multiple pieces so that my Cricut could handle the cuts.
It took forever. But it was still faster than trying to design it myself!
After I got all the pieces cut out of cardstock and vellum, I colored bricks onto the lower parts of the house.
Then I assembled everything with a combination of regular tape and foam squares and circles (to help give it a little depth). I taped a bunch of white cardstock pieces together to create a solid backing for all the small pieces to adhere to.
For the final touch, I hot glued tons of silk flower heads (again, from Walmart clearance) around the front door and Isabela’s bedroom area, just like it looks in the movie.
I designed the “CASITA” text in Photoshop and then used the Print Then Cut feature on the Cricut to cut it out.
Unfortunately, Cricut’s Design Space does not allow me to export my project as an SVG or share it with anyone since I used an uploaded SVG.
But if you want to try this yourself, I highly recommend downloading Miss Mandee’s design and seeing what you can come up with!
