Perhaps you’ve been trying to get pregnant for a while – or you just want to boost your chances of getting pregnant faster. Maybe a friend told you she drank some “fertility tea” right before she conceived and you want to learn more about it! Or you might just be a long-time tea drinker and believer in natural remedies, and you’ve just recently decided you want to have a baby.
You’re in the right place!
Not only will I go over the best teas for fertility you can drink to help you get pregnant, I will go over why certain teas and herbs boost fertility. I’ll explain what herbs you should be looking for and what fertility problems each tea is particularly good at helping with. Each fertility tea received an overall rating based on:
- How easy it is to make
- Flavor
- Affordability
- Reported effectiveness
- Reported side effects
As part of my research, I interviewed Dr. Jessica Christie, a Naturopathic Physician and the owner of Magnolia Integrative Fertility in Washington, DC. I also received some valuable and practical insight from Dr. Kim Langdon of Medzino regarding the best herbs and what conditions are most likely to benefit from drinking fertility tea.
We’ll go into the science behind these herbs, too! And I’ll even provide a recipe for how to make your own fresh herb fertility tea at home as often as you want.

The Best Teas for Fertility Do More Than That
Increasing fertility, in the simplest terms, means inducing ovulation when your body isn’t currently doing it, or building up nutrients and the overall health of your body so it may retain and carry a baby after conception.
That’s why teas are a great place to start when you want to start trying to conceive. While none of them are capable of forcing ovulation, the teas listed here are great for improving your health before pregnancy even begins. They can provide minerals and nutrients you may be deficient of, as well as balance your hormones.
Even if you don’t normally drink tea, this is a simple, natural way to improve fertility that’s easy to try. But if you don’t like drinking tea or find these herbal combinations too *blegh* for you, you can always try herbs and supplements in pill form instead. I’ve got a great article on the best fertility supplements you can check out for ideas!
What are Fertility Teas?
According to Dr. Christie, “[Fertility teas typically] consist of a blend of various herbs, which work together to help balance hormones and the menstrual cycle while also being a source of vitamins and minerals essential for reproduction.”
This means fertility teas (as opposed to everyday teas) can target typical problem areas when it comes to getting pregnant. Fertility problems can include hormone imbalance, lack of ovulation, thin uterine lining, low sex drive, and even low sperm count in men.
Most fertility teas tend to include the same basic group of herbs, with the possibility of one or two “special” herbs to target particular fertility problems. Common herbs used are nettle leaf, red raspberry leaf, and chasteberry (vitex).
The nutrients in these ingredients include:
- Vitamin A
- Vitamins B
- Vitamin C
- Vitamin K
- Amino acids
- Calcium
- Fatty acids
- Folic acid
- Iron
- Magnesium
- Phosphorous
- Polyphenols
- Potassium
- Sodium
- Zinc
Almost all of these act as antioxidants, which protect cells against damage from free radicals.
Using herbal remedies to help treat infertility (among other issues) is a long-standing Chinese practice dating back over 2000 years! In the West, teas and herbs are often only looked to after prescription medicine and traditional cures have failed.
But what is the BEST tea to drink when trying to conceive? The answer to that largely depends on your personal needs, and we’ll discuss each of the best teas for fertility in detail – including who they’ll benefit the most (and why).

Who it’s for: Women with irregular periods, imbalanced hormones, or who need to strengthen their uterus
Main ingredients: Vitex, green tea, nettle leaf, lady’s mantle, red raspberry leaf
Review: This loose-leaf tea is completely organic with no sweeteners – just some mint leaf for flavor. It contains a tiny amount of caffeine. FertiliTea can be prepared hot or cold, and the manufacturer recommends drinking it twice a day.
While it touts a label of 60 servings and equates it to a one-month supply, since I recommend stopping fertility tea between ovulation and the start of your next period, it can actually last you for two cycles drinking it twice a day.
The taste of this tea is surprisingly good, even without any sweeteners. A LOT of women have reported getting pregnant the very first cycle they started drinking FertiliTea! However, if you already have regular periods and positive ovulation tests, you’ll probably want to steer clear – many reported their normal cycle getting out of whack after consuming.
Considering you’re really buying a two-month supply instead of one, the price is extremely good – though you may not even need to drink it the second month! But if you don’t currently have a tea infuser, you’ll probably want to get one to make brewing simple.

- We only use organic, natural herbs packaged in compostable,…
- We offer natural fertility supplements for women – you can pair…
- Pink Stork is here to support you through this life-changing journey….
Who it’s for: Any woman trying to conceive
Main ingredients: Vitex, red raspberry leaf, lady’s mantle
Review: Pink Stork Fertility Tea comes in three varieties: mint, sweet mint, and sweet mint iced tea. The herbs come in pyramid sachets that can each make 2 cups of hot tea (the iced tea sachets make a quart at a time). If you’re religious, it’s worth noting that every package is “prayed over” before release. Stevia is present in the sweet versions.
My review focuses on the Pink Stork Sweet Mint Fertility Tea, their most popular variety. While it makes 30 cups, you must drink two cups at a time to meet this quota as there are only 15 sachets and each one makes two cups. So despite offering 30 servings, this cannot be more than a one-month supply.
Just like FertiliTea, Pink Stork uses peppermint leaf to lend flavor to their herbal drinks. As far as sweeteners go, Stevia is about the healthiest one out there. This additive also means you can take your tea sachets on the go without worrying about having honey or sugar with you. And it tastes pretty good!
The reviews for this Pink Stork tea are overwhelmingly positive, with most drinkers getting pregnant within a month or two. However, if your cycles are already regular you absolutely should not drink this tea. Some women have reported that it actually STOPPED ovulation and even elevated the testosterone level of one (as measured by her physician).
The price per month is a little higher than FertiliTea, but given that the herbs are in sachets instead of loose leaf (and come in nice travel pouches), it’s still very low.

- Tea Bag Instructions: Bring water to boiling and steep the tea bag for…
- Organic Tea Ingredients: This Yogi tea is vegan, USDA Organic, and…
- Uniquely Yogi: We believe in using the highest quality spices and…
Who it’s for: Women with painful periods, or women looking to strengthen the overall health of their uterus
Main ingredients: Just raspberry leaf!
Review: This is one of the simplest packaged fertility teas on this list, because there is only one ingredient: red raspberry leaf.
The main benefit to buying this over a bulk package of red raspberry leaves is the fact that it’s already portioned into single-serving bags you can take on the go without measuring. This package contains six boxes for a total of 96 tea bags! Even if you drink two cups a day (or make one strong cup with two bags), you’ve got 48 days’ worth of bags.
If you only drink tea during the first half of your cycle, this supply should last you roughly three months. However, red raspberry leaf is perfectly safe to drink during pregnancy! So if you drink it every day you can make it last from 7 weeks up to over 3 months, making the price an excellent deal.
There are virtually no negative reviews about this Yogi tea. Most women enjoy the flavor and have no problem drinking it daily. Some women attribute their conception success to this tea (whether or not they had regular periods), while others drinking it in late pregnancy claim it shortened their labor by helping tone their uterus.
You’ve really got nothing to lose with this tea, and if you already have regular cycles, this is the one I recommend.

Who it’s for: Men trying to increase their libido and/or sperm count and motility
Main ingredients: Maca root, fenugreek, green tea
Review: This is a premium tea with a lot of herbs. In addition to the main ingredients above, you’ll also find peppermint, ginkgo biloba, turmeric, ginseng, and more! From the makers of Pink Stork Fertility Tea, the preparation is the same – this is a hot tea, with each sachet making 2 cups (or one large cup) at a time.
Men do not need to take a break from drinking this tea since they don’t have a monthly cycle… So if you want your partner to continuously drink tea through a whole cycle, you’ll want to order two boxes of 15 bags.
Most men who have reviewed this tea don’t have a problem with the taste, and some even enjoy it. There is a sweetened version you can buy, or you can just add a little sugar or honey.
While there are tons and tons of positive reviews from couples who got pregnant after the man drank Blue Stork, there are some reviewers that actually had their sperm count tested before and after drinking it with zero increase. This may mean conception success after drinking this tea is a coincidence – but giving this tea a try shouldn’t hurt anything, either.
On the other hand, the men’s tea is even more expensive than the women’s. Some couples reported success with the man beginning to drink the tea just a few days before predicted ovulation, so I might recommend getting one box and reserving 5 days’ worth of tea sachets for each cycle. This will give you up to three cycles to see if it helps your partner on the path to conception.

Modest Earth Baby Maker Tea
- 100% Organic
- Nourishing for Baby & Mom
- Supports Growing Baby
- Helps Prepare Body for Pregnancy
- Herby, Minty & Slightly Sweet
Who it’s for: Women looking to improve their overall reproductive health, or who are already pregnant
Main ingredients: Nettle leaf, red raspberry leaf, alfalfa leaf
Review: Modest Earth tea is almost like drinking tea with things a child picked from the woods. Other herbs in this mix include peppermint, dandelion leaf, and oatstraw. This is a single large bag of loose leaf tea, so you’ll need a tea infuser to drink it.
The flavor of this tea is very pleasant, and nearly sweet, despite not using any sweeteners at all. There are scads of women reporting a pregnancy after the first cycle of drinking this tea! Many also report the tea as having a calming, soothing effect. There are no fertility herbs in this tea that have been linked to miscarriage or bleeding, so it is safe to drink throughout pregnancy if you like.
A single bag is supposed to make about 48 cups of tea, so even at two coups a day it should last through a cycle or two. If you stretch it through two months, the price is a bit high compared to the other fertility teas on this list, but still reasonable.

Traditional Medicinals Organic Healthy Cycle Tea
No products found.
Who it’s for: Women with painful period cramps
Main ingredients: Raspberry leaf, stinging nettle leaf
Review: Healthy Cycle is one of the most popular fertility teas of all time, most likely because it comes from a trusted brand found on most department store and drugstore shelves. A hot tea in individual bags, it has a relatively unique and citrusy flavor. Both lemongrass and lemon verbena are in the mix, as well as ginger and spearmint leaf.
The packaging provided by Amazon gives you 96 tea bags, which easily translates into 3-6 months of tea. You should not have to buy this more than once! And let’s be real: if it hasn’t worked in three cycles, you’re not likely to buy it again anyway.
As with many fertility teas and supplements, you probably don’t want to drink this one if your cycle is already normal and “healthy.” But it can help regulate yours if it’s not regular, and many women who normally have very bad cramps during their period reported relieved symptoms while drinking this tea. (On the other hand, women who normally have minimal cramping reported severe cramps and fatigue as a result of this tea.)
The initial price of this pack of tea is one of the highest on the list, but it’ll probably last you many months, making the monthly price on par with the rest.

Who it’s for: Women with imbalanced hormones and/or irregular periods
Main ingredients: Vitex, red raspberry leaf, lady’s mantle, nettle leaf
Review: This is one of the newest fertility teas out there, so there aren’t many Get Pregnant Fertility Tea reviews. There are some red flags in the product promotion, from the combination of European spelling of words with a “Certified USDA Organic” label to the hard sell that “celebrities” love the product.
The makers say this tea can be enjoyed hot or cold. It uses Stevia as a natural sweetener, as well as peppermint leaf and licorice root for flavor. It’s got a couple of herbs I’ve never even heard of before! But most of the ingredients are the exact ones commonly used for treating infertility, so it’s on par with others on this list in terms of content.
Some women hate the taste, others love it, and some even say it has pretty much no flavor at all. Overall, it’s at least tolerable to drink. There are a few reports of women getting pregnant after drinking this tea, but most of the handful of reviews there are just say it’s helped to trigger a regular period and reduce menstrual cramps.
This package contains 20 sachets, with each sachet making 2 cups of tea. So one bag will only last you one cycle or so – and unless you have Amazon Prime (which gives you a couple of dollars off), that makes it more expensive than most of the teas on this list.

Who it’s for: Women hoping to tone their uterus prior to pregnancy; women seeking increase cervical mucus; also for women trying to relax and reduce stress while TTC
Main ingredients: Red raspberry leaf, nettle leaf
Review: You can drink this fertility tea hot or make a hot batch, cool it, and refrigerate it for a few days. Herb Lore uses a loose-leaf blend, so you’ll need a tea infuser unless you plan on straining your tea after steeping.
This blend uses a few other herbs some women and naturopaths swear by, such as red clover, dandelion, and alfalfa – but you should know there have been virtually no studies done on the effectiveness of those particular herbs. There are no sweeteners, just some peppermint leaf for flavor.
This tea does seem to be effective for many women, even if the taste leaves something to be desired. Lemon and honey is a common recommendation for sweetening. But many women with PCOS report getting regular periods back after drinking this tea; one diagnosed with closed tubes even reported that this tea helped open her fallopian tubes enough to conceive!
If you have a regular cycle, as with most fertility teas, this is probably not for you. It may mess up your healthy cycle and likely won’t make it easier for you to get pregnant. If you are in need of regulation, though, most reviewers say one cup a day is not enough to see a difference – two is preferred, and the manufacturer even notes that 2-3 cups a day is recommended.
There are 60 cups in one bag, and since it’s loose leaf you can drink one cup at a time instead of two (perfect for drinking one in the morning and one at night). You should stop drinking it once ovulation starts, so this is easily a two-month supply, making the price excellent.

Teatox Life Fertility & Pregnancy Tea
No products found.
Who it’s for: Women suffering from PCOS or painful menstrual cramps
Main ingredients: Raspberry leaf, Vitex, nettle leaf
Review: Another loose-leaf hot tea, Teatox goes for both flavor and effectiveness in their fertility tea blend. This is one of the only ones that contains cinnamon, which has been known to trigger ovulation in women with PCOS (source further down)! They also included stevia for sweetness and two types of herbal lemon plus ginger for taste.
Chamomile is present in this tea, making it a relaxing, calming beverage as well. There is no green tea so it is completely caffeine free; it is also completely organic AND made in the USA.
The reviews for this tea are glowing. Women love the flavor, and they’re reporting regular periods with less pain. Many are getting pregnant in the first month of drinking it (though Teatox recommends you drink it for 90 days prior to trying to conceive).
With about 30 servings of tea per bag, drinking two cups of this fertility tea per day will only get you through one cycle of TTC. This ratio puts this tea on the higher end of the price range for this list!

Cysterhood Hormone-Balancing Tea
No products found.
Who it’s for: Women with imbalanced hormones or PCOS; women plagued with gas, bloating, and other digestive issues
Main ingredients: Lady’s mantle, red raspberry leaf, stinging nettle leaf
Review: Billed as a “soothing” hot tea for women with PCOS or out-of-balance hormones trying to conceive, Cysterhood uses a pretty standard combination of herbs for fertility and flavor as seen on the rest of this list. They do include cinnamon bark, which is excellent for helping treat PCOS.
Despite no other out-of-the-ordinary ingredients, Cysterhood claims a host of benefits not mentioned by some of the other best teas for fertility. They say this tea can help with weight loss, hair loss, acne, bloating, cramps, and moodiness… But really, most of this just goes hand-in-hand with balancing out your hormones. (Thus, their marketing is top-notch.)
Cysterhood has the best individual reviews of any tea on this list. Women left and right are raving about the flavor. Those whose periods were MIA have finally gotten them back. Ladies suffering from PCOS had symptoms reduced and hormones balanced.
This level of effectiveness has a price, though – namely, a monthly cost that’s more than double the other teas on this list.

Best Teas for Fertility FAQ
Q: Can drinking tea actually help you get pregnant?
A: Pretty much nothing will guarantee you a pregnancy – not even IVF! But evidence does suggest that herbal supplements can improve your chances. In one study at the Stanford University School of Medicine, among women who struggled with fertility issues and took herbal supplements, a third of them became pregnant within five months!
Q: Are teas for fertility likely to help me with my specific problem?
A: Dr. Langdon states that “If you have PCOS, ovulation issues, a history of abnormal cervical mucus or recurrent miscarriages,” you’re more likely to have fertility success as a result of drinking the best teas for fertility.
Dr. Christie says “any woman with an irregular period could benefit from drinking fertility teas before and during conception efforts.” She also notes that these teas can improve circulation, which helps both in the production of cervical mucous (which is important for conception) and ridding the body of toxins faster.
Because of this benefit, “all women would likely benefit [in general] by drinking fertility tea,” believes Dr. Christie.
Q: Can my regular daily tea bag work just as well?
A: Probably not. While regular tea can boost your immune system and even keep cancer away, it doesn’t target ailments specific to infertility. Regular tea also has more caffeine than most of the blends in this article, and many fertility specialists believe women trying to conceive should steer clear of caffeine consumption. Multiple studies have shown that caffeine up to 250mg per day has little to no effect on fertility – except when paired with alcohol.
Q: Are fertility teas safe?
A: Dr. Christie echos many other doctors’ recommendations when it comes to safety with herbal remedies:
“While these herbs are known to be gentle, you should always check with your healthcare provider if you have a specific condition or are on medication. Naturopathic doctors in particular are trained in herbal/medication interactions and can help you decide if herbs are right for you. Also, some herbs can be very dangerous during pregnancy, so please don’t add other herbs to your blend without consulting with an herbal expert to ensure they would be safe.”
Q: When should you drink tea to help get pregnant?
A: Ideally, you’ll start drinking your tea on the first day of your period and continue on through your predicted ovulation date. You’ll want to stop at that point in case you do conceive, because some of the ingredients in fertility teas have a slight risk of causing a chemical pregnancy or miscarriage to occur. If you get a positive pregnancy test, you should abstain from drinking these teas moving forward (unless specified otherwise)!
If you’re not sure when you would normally ovulate, track your basal body temperature and cervical mucus for a month or two before trying herbal teas for conception. (Or make easy work of it and use ovulation predictor tests!)
Q: How often should you drink herbal tea to get pregnant?
A: “Women can drink 1 cup daily (or as recommended by their healthcare provider),” recommends Dr. Christie.
Best Herbs to Look for In Fertility Tea (and What They Do)
While some of these herbs appear to have specific benefits for various factors in fertility, Dr. Langdon makes an important observation. “Almost all of these herbs are anti-oxidants, which lower inflammation, which may be a factor in infertility.”
So even if you’ve been given a specific diagnosis related to infertility, it may just be the general consumption of anti-inflammatory herbs that helps you conceive!
Chasteberry (Vitex)
“One of the best herbs for balancing the sex hormones,” per Dr. Christie, Vitex is perhaps the single best herb for improved chances of conception. This herb is used to treat infertility, PMS, menstrual disorders, and even menopause.
Benefits: may reduce prolactin levels in women with luteal phase defect; generally improves the regularity of periods in most women; Dr. Langdon specifically notes that Vitex can aid both ovulation and implantation
Side Effects: nausea, upset stomach, and headaches can be minor side effects; a heavy menstrual flow is another, making stinging nettle leaf (below) a great companion to help reduce bleeding
Red Raspberry Leaf
Second only to Vitex in its list of benefits for women, red raspberry leaf can be used in and of itself if you can’t afford a ton of different herbs or fancy prepackaged teas. Red raspberry leaf tea fertility success stories abound on the Web – do a quick search to see for yourself!
Often called the “woman’s herb,” red raspberry leaf tea has long been promoted for use both before and during pregnancy because of its positive effects on lady parts and a lack of serious side effects!
Benefits: can relieve symptoms of PMS; tightens pelvic muscles, which can reduce cramping; contains tons of iron, which many women have a deficiency of; like Vitex, can help with ovulation and implantation (per Dr. Langdon)
Side Effects: virtually none, though it can cause looser stools and more frequent urination
Stinging Nettle Leaf
More of a “global” herbal recommendation than one specific to conception, stinging nettle is a great inclusion in your fertility tea for improving overall health prior to pregnancy.
Benefits: the antioxidants help promote a healthy body (and a hospitable uterus); stinging nettle can also reduce excessive bleeding, making for more tolerable periods when stopping birth control
Side Effects: wear gloves when handling fresh leaves, or the fine barbs can release undesirable chemicals into your skin; lowers blood pressure and should not be consumed in conjunction with blood pressure medication; can cause uterine contractions that lead to miscarriage in pregnant women
Peppermint Leaf
A super-safe herb for almost everyone to consume, peppermint leaf also happens to make periods more tolerable by lessening cramps. Peppermint has the added bonus of making your fertility tea naturally smell and taste better!
Benefits: as a muscle relaxant, it can relieve menstrual cramps; it may fight bacterial infections, which can be a cause of miscarriage in early pregnancy
Side Effects: probably none, though you may notice an increase in heartburn if you already suffer from it
Green Tea Leaf
Green tea is another drink that, like stinging nettle, mostly just improves your overall health. But it seems to boost the positive effects of other fertility herbs, likely due to its minor caffeine content.
It’s imperative you include red raspberry leaf when using green tea in your fertility tea, though – green tea leaf can reduce your body’s absorption of iron from foods, and red raspberry leaf contains a large amount of iron to help counter it.
Benefits: reduces levels of bad cholesterol; reduces risk of endometrial, cervical, and ovarian cancers; seems to enhance the effects of other fertility herbs, particularly chaste berry
Side Effects: can cause upset stomach or constipation; contains caffeine, so high consumption can lead to caffeine headaches, tremors, etc; reduces the absorption of iron from foods
Cinnamon
Most people enjoy the flavor of cinnamon, and it can be particularly good in a tea brew. But you may be surprised to know that it can also help women – particularly those with PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome) – to conceive!
Benefits: can lower blood sugar and cholesterol (so talk to your doctor if you’re on medication for diabetes); one study showed a dramatic increase in regular periods and conception for women with PCOS over a six-month period; Dr. Langdon also cites cinnamon as a useful spice for ovulation and PCOS
Side Effects: likely none in the doses used in fertility tea; some people are allergic, though, and extremely high consumption can lead to liver problems
For Men: Ashwagandha
You’ll find other articles promoting ashwagandha as a fertility herb women should use, but I disagree. There is evidence that ashwagandha causes miscarriages, and these effects may linger even after you stop drinking your fertility tea at the time of ovulation – especially if you’ve been drinking several cups a day throughout your cycle.
For MEN, however, ashwagandha couldn’t be more useful!
Benefits: can provide a significant increase in testosterone levels; improves sperm count and motility as well
Side Effects: large doses can cause upset stomach, diarrhea, vomiting, and liver problems; should not be taken in conjunction with medication for diabetes, blood pressure, or thyroid issues
Teas to Avoid While Trying to Conceive
While most teas in moderation are perfectly safe to drink when trying to conceive, there is one ingredient that you’ll want to avoid:
Caffeine.
While some caffeine consumption is fine when trying to conceive, large amounts may negatively impact your fertility. Light teas and green teas can be consumed several times a day without making a big impact on caffeine quotas.
Black tea and dark amber teas, however, have higher caffeine contents, so you’ll want to avoid them as much as possible (though decaffeinated versions of these teas are fine).

Facts About Drinking Tea to Help Get Pregnant
Here are some things to keep in mind about using the best teas for fertility:
- The FDA has never approved any tea for the purpose of enhanced fertility. This doesn’t really mean they can’t help, it just means there haven’t been enough studies to confirm the effects.
- Talking to a doctor should be your very first step in your journey to conception. A doctor can test your fertility factors and hormone levels, as well as determine any deficiencies in your health. You may want to be tested for allergies to any of the herbs you intend to consume, especially if you have a history of allergic reactions.
- Fertility tea may improve your chances of getting pregnant, but it is NOT a guarantee.
- You should seek out high-quality tea bags or herbal blends (such as the ones linked in this article). You want products that use fresh organic ingredients in packaging designed to maintain their freshness.
- Prenatal vitamins are recommended in the months prior to conception as well as throughout your pregnancy, and if you plan on taking them as well as other herbal remedies for getting pregnant (like these teas), talk to your doctor about them at the same time so you can be sure you’re not overdoing it on any nutrients. I have a great article on the best prenatal vitamins with recommendations based on your specific needs, as well!
You now have the facts on some of the best teas for fertility out there – including how to brew your own! Dr. Christie has some important parting wisdom for women trying to conceive, though.
“Eat healthy whole foods, drink plenty of filtered water, get adequate sleep, and exercise … Even the best herbs out there can’t overturn a poor diet and/or lifestyle.“
So use your fertility tea as part of a whole health plan in your journey to conception. I’ve got more tips on how to get pregnant fast, too. Good luck, (future) mama!
